Atlassian, the powerhouse behind Jira and Confluence, has made a bold move by acquiring The Browser Company, the innovative force behind the Arc and Dia web browsers, for $610 million in cash.

This acquisition, announced on September 5, 2025, signals Atlassian’s ambition to reshape how knowledge workers interact with the web, leveraging AI to create a browser tailored for productivity in the era of Software as a Service (SaaS) and artificial intelligence.

The Browser Company, founded in 2019 by Josh Miller and Hursh Agrawal, has been reimagining the browser experience. Arc, launched in 2022, introduced features like customizable workspaces and tab-sharing, earning a cult following among power users.

Dia, its newer AI-driven browser, launched in beta in June 2025, allows users to interact with multiple tabs via an AI assistant, streamlining tasks like data transfer across apps. However, Arc’s development was paused last year as the company shifted focus to Dia, aiming for broader appeal.

What’s next? The Browser Company will operate independently under Atlassian, focusing on scaling Dia to become the go-to AI browser for work. Dia will integrate with SaaS apps, embedding AI capabilities and personal work memory to connect tasks across tabs, all while prioritizing enterprise-grade security.

Atlassian’s CEO, Mike Cannon-Brookes, envisions Dia as a game-changer for over 300,000 customers, including 80% of Fortune 500 companies, by transforming browsers from passive tools into active workflow hubs.

The deal, set to close by December 2025, pending regulatory approval, won’t impact Atlassian’s financials until 2028, but it’s a strategic play to dominate the AI-driven enterprise browser market.
